The Honourable Justice Malcolm Rowe (2025)

The inaugural Law and Society State of Justice of Nova Scotia and Beyond Lecture was given by the Honourable Justice Malcolm Rowe of the Supreme Court of Canada on October 29, 2025.

Justice Rowe spoke on Canada and the US: After 150 Years the Differences Remain the Same, which examined the contemporary differences in political culture between the two countries.

Justice Rowe’s distinguished career has spanned private practice focussing on international law, as well as time spent in the foreign service and Newfoundland and Labrador public service. Justice Rowe was first appointed to the Newfoundland and Labrador Supreme Court in 1999 and subsequently elevated to that province’s Court of Appeal in 2001. He was appointed to the Supreme Court of Canada in 2016.

During his visit, Justice Rowe also met with several classes to discuss his role as a Supreme Court justice and the state of law and justice in Canada. This story provides more details about the day.
